Bevan & Buckland are delighted to note that Peter Muxworthy has been awarded an MBE in the 2012 New Year’s Honours List in recognition of his services to the community in Swansea.
Peter started with Bevan & Buckland in December 1956 as an Articled Clerk, working his way up to becoming a Partner in 1963. Peter still works with Bevan & Buckland on a part-time basis as a Consultant.
Peter has been awarded an MBE for his tireless work with a number of organisations in the Swansea area over the last 50 years. Some of these are listed below, from which you will begin to see the enormity of the work Peter has carried out in his spare time whilst being a Partner with Bevan & Buckland and a family man.
Living in Horton on the Gower, Peter has been heavily involved with the RNLI, serving on the Port Eynon lifeboat from 1968 to 1989. Having been forced to stand down from his active duties on the lifeboat due to an age restriction policy, Peter continued to assist with the day to day running of the lifeboat station as Operations Manager, only finally stepping down in 2011.
Peter also served as a Magistrate in Swansea for 34 years, during which time he chaired the Swansea Bench, West Glamorgan Magistrates Courts Committee and the South Wales Magistrates Courts Committee.
With his accounting background Peter has been involved as Treasurer for a number of local organisations, including:
- Dunvant Rugby Club (for 40 years)
- The Gower Show (since 1973)
- The Cambrian Educational Foundation for Deaf Children
- South Gower Sports Club
- Horton Village Hall
Peter continues to act as treasurer to the Glamorgan West Area Scout Association, and has been busy over the last few months assisting with the purchase and preparation of the new Scout’s campsite alongside Fairwood Airport.
As if that wasn’t enough, Peter has held a number of other roles in the Swansea area including:
- Member and former Chairman of the Gower Round Table
- Clerk and community councillor on Penrice Community Council for 25 years
- Magistrates Representative on South Wales Police Authority for 15 years
Originally living in Sketty, Peter married Beryl in 1964 and they relocated to Horton on the Gower Peninsula. They have two sons and a daughter, plus six grandchildren, all of whom are all currently fighting over who will make the trip to Buckingham Palace to see Peter receive his award!
It’s easy to see why Peter has been recognised for all the hard work he’s put in on behalf of the people of Swansea and the Gower over so many years, and everyone at Bevan & Buckland sends their whole-hearted congratulations to him and his family.
